Flexibility can Hurt Dynamic Matching System Performance

چکیده

We study the performance of stochastic matching models with general compatibility graphs. Items different classes arrive to system according independent Poisson processes. Upon arrival, an item is matched a compatible First Come Matched discipline and both items leave immediately. If there are no items, new arrival joins queue unmatched same class. Compatibilities between defined by connected graph, where nodes represent edges compatibilities classes. show that such model may exhibit non intuitive behavior: increasing flexibility adding in graph lead larger average population at steady state. This paradox can be viewed as analog Braess paradox. sufficient conditions for existence or non-existence this appears when specific sets saturation, i.e., close stability condition.
